Goodboy Galaxy Dev Blog Update 2 (June 2026)

Hi gang!

It's Jeremy here reporting on the latest Goodboy Galaxy production news this time. Here's what's been happening over the last few weeks:

Cartridge Assembly (part 2)

As you may recall from the previous update, Bitmap Bureau were preparing a test batch of cartridges to ensure the flashing process was working smoothly. This revealed an issue with the firmware on the PCBs which has now been fixed, and so the full production run has begun!

The PCB flashing rig, as shown in the last update, is now in action!

Once these are sorted they'll be sent onwards to Reef Entertainment to be united with the boxes, manuals and everything else. Shipping of the physicals (both GBA & Switch) is due to begin next month.

For the early-bird backers, the shipment of ~1000 Maxwell friendcards is now at the warehouse. (Shoutouts to my dad for delivering them safely!)

Switch news

We're pleased to confirm that a physical Nintendo Switch release of Goodboy Galaxy is coming to North America! The game is available to preorder from Amazon (US) and selected retailers such as VGP (Canada) and Best Buy.

This was a bit touch-and-go due to the relatively high minimum order quantities involved, so we're very glad Reef were able to make it happen.

Additionally: the Nintendo eShop codes have been ordered (for all regions)! If you pledged for a digital Switch copy, these are on track to be sent out later this month.

In other news...

We put together a mix of chill/relaxing music from the game + demo, which you can check out below. Hope you enjoy!

Finally - some of you might be interested in the 3-month long GBA game jam starting this weekend. I've helped organise these for the last few years; they're a great chance to learn GBA development and make something cool, and worth keeping an eye on for fans of homebrew games!

That's all!

Thanks so much to everyone who's still following along after all these years. It has not gone anywhere near as smooth as we'd have liked, but the end is in sight, and we're looking forward to the day when the game is finally in people's hands.
